"My work is concerned with the reconstructed landscape, that is, how the land has been modified by human activity over time, whether ancient or modern.
The paintings attempt to express my attitude and reaction to the landscape I see and, in this respect, I seek to be more than merely topographical, looking instead for the expression of initial response rather than literal representation. To this end I deliberately seek out landscape subjects which demonstrate their own unique form, strength and texture, and then I try to express in paint my own reactions to these personally significant places. In doing this, I am attempting to develop my own individual vocabulary which will illustrate my response to, rather than depiction of, a particular environment.

I am passionate about the landscape- the structures, shapes, colours and textures, but even more than that, I am fascinated by the way the land has been marked, scarred and striated by previous generations as they worked if for whatever purpose they drew their existence by: old boundaries which lie beneath the present day field patterns, abandoned mine workings, disused quarries, defunct earthworks, all now covered by soil, vegetation or residues; tracks lurking beneath the surface, covered by the fields now cultivated or left wild, but still evident. And still influencing the landscape of today."
